ADVANCE WEAVING// 'CONTAMINATED'

Contaminated
(Advance weaving)
Advance weaving includes more complicated and advance woven structures. The challenge was to bring the inspiration in a woven form using the gained knowledge of complex structures. The final warps were woven on dobby loom which had 24 shafts.
Inspiration
I took water pollution as my inspiration. The increased accumulation of plastics in the water bodies is causing a huge damage to the marine life. The raised used of single use plastics and bottles is creating nothing but piles and piles of non-biodegradable waste in the water.
Warp 1
The first warp was drafted in 23 shafts for double cloth weave. I also did extra weft, checks in double cloth, differential take-up and stitched double cloth to get the essence of the artworks in the weave. In the warp both natural (cotton, cupro) and synthetic (polyester) yarns were used. Also for both of the warps plastic was used as weft in some places, mainly extra weft.
Artworks
Warp 2
The second warp was drafted in 22 shafts for weaving extra warp and extra weft.
